BlackSheep is a 70-foot waterjet-propelled skimmer with a unique hull design, engineered to carry a highly efficient system for recovering oil from the sea surface. Leveraging the exceptional absorbent power of coarse wool, the recovered oil is stored in specially designed tanks. A market survey of major oil spills showed that most incidents occur 100-150 miles offshore, a distance BlackSheep can cover in about 5 hours at top speed.
Rapid response is crucial when dealing with oil spills, as early arrival prevents spilled oil from changing its physical state due to weather, which would make cleanup much harder.
