We are a marine design studio driven by a bold ambition: to reshape the relationship between humanity and the ocean through innovation, sustainability, and purpose. Our expertise spans naval architecture, custom vessel design, and advanced engineering solutions tailored for shipyards and private clients alike.
At the heart of our work lies a deep commitment to environmental restoration. We believe that vessels can do more than navigate the seas: they can heal them. Our first major project is focused on developing a cutting-edge solution to mitigate the devastating impact of oil spills. By designing vessels capable of recovering petroleum from contaminated waters, we aim to protect fragile ecosystems and restore balance to our oceans, lakes, and coastal regions.
But our vision doesn't stop there. We are actively researching and prototyping vessels designed to retrieve bulky waste and plastic debris from seabeds near shorelines, tackling pollution where it's most entrenched. These are not just boats; they are tools for transformation.
Alongside our environmental initiatives, we offer comprehensive design services to companies seeking reliable, high-performance marine solutions. From feasibility studies to detailed design, we collaborate closely with our partners to bring ambitious ideas to life with precision, creativity, and technical excellence.
Our studio is built on trust, passion, and a relentless drive to innovate. We don't just design vessels: we design impact. Whether you&aposre a shipyard looking for a strategic partner or a visionary client with a custom project in mind, we're here to navigate the future together.
Hi, I'm Susanna (Susie) an Italian Naval Architect and Marine Engineer currently based in Aalsmeer, Netherlands.
I designed and polished BlackSheep project during 10 years of experience in the maritime industry.

Deck Cadet, Technical Procurement Specialist, Project Engineer, and Class Surveyor. This multifaceted background has equipped me with in-depth expertise across all stages of ship design and production, from initial Concept Design to final Sea Trials, for projects of various sizes and complexities.
During both my bachelor's and master's degree theses, I designed, developed, and initiated the prototyping of innovative small workboats for cleaning the seas of oil spills (BlackSheep and BackInBlack). Driven by a strong belief in its potential, I am committed to bringing these projects to reality. Building on this foundation, my goal is to create additional solutions to tackle other types of marine pollution, including waste accumulation along shorelines. Let's be the wave of change!

My journey to this point has been defined by a lifelong fascination with the sea and a commitment to excellence in the maritime field. That journey took a significant turn when, at 19, I decided to join the Italian Navy as a Cadet, with ambitions to become a Deck Officer. The three years I spent in the Navy were formative, instilling in me invaluable discipline, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of maritime operations. I gained hands-on experience, temporarily commanding the Bridge of a vessel and instructing young cadets, honing my decision-making abilities and capacity for command under pressure. I graduated from there with a Bachelor in Naval and Maritime Sciences.

Subsequent to my military career I pursued and attained Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, both with honors. Throughout the entire course of studies, financial independence was maintained by consistently working to cover living expenses, including positions at multinational companies such as IKEA, Decathlon, and Enel. This experience contributed to the development of strong organizational and interpersonal skills, as well as adaptability within diverse work environment.

Currently, I'm a Senior Project Engineer at Feadship (Royal Van Lent), where I leverage my expertise to manage complex shipbuilding projects. Prior to this, I served as a Marine Surveyor for RINA Classification Society, inspecting newbuilds for the Italian and foreign navies at shipyards like Fincantieri and Intermarine. This hands-on experience provided invaluable insight into every facet of vessel construction. I had the honor of contributing to significant projects, including authorizing the First Sea Going (FSG) of the Italian Navy's LHD Trieste and PPA, and Qatari OPVs, also attending and witnessing several Sea Trials.
While the two positions above are my most recent roles, my career in the naval field began before earning my master's degree, when I gained valuable experience with Costa Cruise Lines, managing and scheduling dry dock works on fleet ships and overseeing systems from HVAC to piping.
Furthermore, my career has led me to be directly involved in the SEA5000 tender. While working with Fincantieri, I contributed to the construction of cruise ship blocks in Australia, which aimed to expand operations in that continent. This involved managing subcontractors (including those with late deliveries and incorrect materials), organizing shipping logistics, and overseeing welding procedures and certifications.

Then, as a Project Engineer at Azimut, I honed my engineering and project management skills while working on the Magellano 30-meter yacht prototype. I oversaw structures, mechanical, and special systems, reviewed technical specifications and drawings, coordinated production, and ensured seamless project execution.
My diverse background has equipped me with a unique perspective and a solutions-oriented approach. I'm adept at identifying potential challenges, streamlining processes, and ensuring that projects are completed to the highest standards of quality and safety. I'm efficient, particularly in high-pressure situations, and I'm committed to delivering results that exceed expectations.
Beyond my technical skills, I'm a collaborative team player with a passion for innovation. I'm also an avid traveler and adventurer, with a love for running, trekking, scuba diving, and horseback riding. My career has been a journey of continuous learning and growth, and I'm excited to contribute my skills and expertise to develop my challenging projects.
